Cascade drummer brings metal to the masses!

Jim Mawson, a Senior Structure Analyst at Cascade will be abandoning analysis in favour of his drumsticks in August.

Jim is the drummer of Farnborough band Stone Soup – a five-piece ‘bluesy hard rock band’ which recently won their regional final in the ‘Metal to the Masses’ competition organised by the Bloodstock Open Air metal weekend. The festival looks for new bands across the UK and Europe ahead of the event, so Jim’s band faced tough competition across a wide range of metal genres.

The band’s win means they will play a 30-minute set on the dedicated Newblood stage at the main event in early August, opening their music up to a huge audience of potential new fans!

Stone Soup has made it through several stages to land this prestigious opportunity, and some of the Cascade team went along to the regional final at the end of June to give Jim their support.

“We’re incredibly excited about playing Bloodstock Open Air,” says Jim. “It’s one of the biggest festivals of metal, and the Metal to the Masses competition is a showcase that gives unsigned bands the opportunity to play a major festival, make new contacts in the music industry and maybe be discovered as the next big thing!”
