Applying for Work Experience?
HERE ARE A FEW POINTERS
We get a lot of applications for work experience, more than we have places to offer. To help your chances of success, here are a few ways you can make your application stand out.
Say when you want your work experience for:
This saves a follow up question to find out. Also be prepared to be flexible if you can; sometimes we can’t do half term but could do the following holiday.
Plan ahead:
Get your application in before others. Thinking 2-4 months ahead is good. If it’s less than a month ahead, we’re very likely to be already booked up.
Tell us the subjects you are studying for and your future study plans:
This means for example current A Levels being studied, or current or future degree courses. This really helps us because we want to support people who could go on to a career in our industry. Maths and physics are core A Levels for us, while mechanical or aeronautical engineering are great degree subjects.
A CV isn’t essential for 1 week of work experience:
There’s no need to go to elaborate lengths for a very short-term arrangement of around a week. An email that includes the information mentioned above will suffice. If you have a CV ready, certainly send it; we just don’t need you to develop one especially for us.
Hobbies and interests can be a bonus:
Interests that align to our business show you’re likely to fit in.
Give a reason to choose Cascade and a reason we’d choose you:
Please take a moment to tell us how Cascade Engineering appeals to you to help your request stand out.

Working to this list doesn't guarantee a place because we receive more applications than we can accommodate. But it will help your chances of success if we have places to offer.
Other considerations to note:
- We usually give priority to students studying core subjects with a view to a career in our industry
- Those in years 10 and 11 studying for GCSEs are unlikely to be awarded a place. We’d rather you wait and apply in a year or two because to be honest, we think you’d get more out of the experience then, and be more able to contribute to something for us.
- Please proofread carefully, and ask someone to read it over on your behalf. Our industry requires attention to detail; we are after all often working on aerospace designs that have vital safety considerations. So a double check is always a good idea.
- Add your name to your application email! Emails called “Work Experience” and CVs called “CV” or “My CV” are very common and don’t stand out. Please ensure your application and CV are clearly labelled.
